The Gender Equity Cup

When a cup is not a cup

One continuous piece of metal cast in solid aluminium, the cup weighs in at around 7 kilos.  Easy enough to lift alone, but far more satisfying to lift with a team. Made to be held by many, the cup has abundant twists and turns that act as grips, a shared experience. Community is there to collectively hold and that was the salient point of this design, to hold the cup is to celebrate your community and the ride that got you to this point, together.

This in fact might be an anti-trophy, symbolic of goodwill and inclusivity rather than the  traditional tiered ranking system.

Special thanks go to Craig MacDonald from Garage Art Foundry in Elphinstone and Duncan Freedman from RMIT’s Foundry for their support with construction and casting, Penny Ryan for excellent documentation, Zoe Scoglio for their techincal skills and abundant generous enthusiasm and Women’s Health Loddon Mallee for the financial support.

Thank you to the excellent humans of the
Mt Alexander Falcons  for the opportunity and community.
